Let’s talk about “Respect”. Respecting people wins trust and develops lasting relationships. In this post, let me share five simple and effective ways for you to win the trust of your colleagues, staffs & team.
1) Be on time.
In fact, arrive early for appointments and meetings. Plan ahead and set time-table that reminds you when to start moving to an appointment. That is, know when you stop working on a task, start accumulating resource and reports and when you start traveling. Allow time for delays in travel, especially traffic condition.
-Note: Remember the fastest way to break people’s trust in you is to waste their time.
2) Communicate with others.
Answer your phone and return calls. Listen cautiously when someone is talking to you and pay attention to what he is saying.
-Note: Ignoring people is rude and unprofessional.
3) Plan meetings.
For example, always prepare a timetable for meetings. Contact key contributors before the assembly to hear their views, ask for suggestions for agenda items. Email the agenda to participants ahead of scheduled meeting so they have time to gather their thoughts.
-Note: Bad meeting shows an inability to provide leadership.
4) Be courteous.
Compliment others. Avoid gossip. Never ridicule, insult, or bully others. Use encouraging phrases, tell him what you need and how you want things to be. Avoid suggesting motives or assigning judgments for different people’s moves and views.
Note: Discourtesy damages all relationships.
5) Help others.
Be kind to newcomers. Share ideas. Encourage competencies with a purpose to help them excel. Work with a spirit of abundance. Listen and let others speak. Give first without expecting a return in favors.
Note: Selfish people end up running harder.
